in search of the perfect pair of shoes

Every day is different on its own
You don't have to strain to make it
Open up your child-heart thought
This advice is good if you'll take it

Those little shoes
   Made me smile
In the childhood of my children
A harbor in the midst of mild
                                                              oppression
They would stay beneath
the spare chair of the kitchen
Or move often in the middle of the floor
So you could trip on them
as you came through the door

Honest to God
I think I see more of Jesus
in riding my big daughter's bike
   with my little daughter
   than I do
   going to church
     on Sunday morning

*   *   *

we came to earth to be bowled
over
not to insure that our opinions
   are right
we came into the world to
       unfold together
not to remain as a seed
                             so tight
